Commission- Grief and Deciet by DavidFernandezArt Commission- Grief and Deciet by DavidFernandezArt
This is a Commission for ~TheRealShockWave.

Its his Sith character, Darth Janus, the Lord of Deciet,(right) recieving a message from his master, my Sith character, Darth Zeram, the Lord of Grief (left).

He recieves a message from Lord Zeram while meditating within the tomb of Freedon Nadd.

I had to use a personal screen shot from KOTOR 2 for this pic, but it came out super nice.

I really dug the way this came out. Hope you enjoy it, ~TheRealShockWave!

Enjoy ^^

I have to commend you on another job well done. The hologram effect is, as you have said, made with photoshop. But i also understand that it's an advanced technique, if i'm not mistaken. Both characters are well drawn for the perspective you chose, and it's good to see that you, unlike some other artists i know, know what the back of their characters looks like. Also, i believe the symbol on Darth Zeram's right shoulder is taken from a Kanji symbol, or something similar. The background i instantly recognized as from kotor 2, and knew it to be Freedon Nadd's Tomb on Dxun. And also, just to ease my mind, they're either right in front of Nadd's Sarcophagus, or they're at the entrance to the Sarcophagus room, right?

Hope i didnt say anything wrong in this O.o I tend to be blunt sometimes. That aside, good job!

Ha nice. Youre correct, they are in fact right in front of Freedon Nadd's sarcophagus. The symbol on Zerams shoulder, however, is just a random symbol Ive made up, although Im sure it would look like kanji. Thanks for the compliments!

Grief guiding deceit? Isn't it usually the other way around? :?
Either way, very cool drawing.

what do you mean? Their titles are the lord of grief and the lord of deciet.

What I mean is, a grieving person is usually much easier to decieve. When I first saw the thumbnail and the title, I thought it was a Sith lord trying to entice a Jedi at his weakest.

They exist kind in the time period between the end of the Clone Wars and the beginning of the Galactic Civil war. Theres like a 20 year period of time where not much is going on, other than the Emperor being an ass (lol).

Here's my back-story for Janus, since you're interested:

There was once a time when the Lord of Deceit was known as Belisar Tonin. Even in his youth, the truth did not spring easily or willingly from him and he was adept at hiding his true intentions, even from the masters in the Jedi Temple. At the age of ten, while studying within the temple library, he discovered an ancient Sith holocron once belonging to the ancient Dark Lord Freedon Nadd. Secreting the artifact away to his room, he sought to learn all he could from it. He determined to become a powerful wielder or the Force, but without a Sith Lord to instruct him, he was forced to rely on the weak teachings of his Jedi masters, all the while keeping them ignorant of his true purpose.

A decade and a half later, the Clone Wars struck the galaxy, immersing it in strife and providing Belisar the opportunity to more openly develop his potential in the dark side. As the wars drew on, he grew in power and led a legion of clone troopers on the planet of Onderon, ancient home to Freedon Nadd's kingdom. During the fighting, he made an expedition to the nearby moon of Dxun, where he had learned Nadd's tomb had been erected. There in the jungle, amidst the beasts and battle droids, he cloaked himself in the darkness he long desired, entering Nadd's tomb and summoning what little remained of the long-dead Sith Lord's spirit.

Days later, he emerged, more powerful than ever, and rejoined his soldiers fighting on the planet. The tide of battle had turned in the Separatists' favor and they were forced to retreat from Onderon. As he boarded his fighter, Belisar conspired to make it appear as though he were killed, allowing him to break from the Jedi Order once and for all. With his troops believing him dead, he made his way to Korriban, fabled burial place of the Sith Empire, where he encountered the recently-turned Darth Zeram. Pledging his loyalty to his fellow fallen Jedi, Belisar was dubbed Darth Janus, the Lord of Deceit...

Not bad,

Good use of lighting. I would have put some distortion in the hologram or a faint ghosted image to really push that its digitized. Love the costume design for Darth Janus. Simple yet elegant. The background is a nice choice as well.
great job!

How did you do that blue lined effect for the hologram?

Though this whole setup seems like a part that I had played in the online game "Star Wars Galaxies", where on the planet Mustafar, there's a holocube to give you a mission, but the figure in the cube is Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Actually there is, I was just lazy and didnt want to type the whole explanation XD. Basically what you do is, you take your lineart layer on photoshop, you take the magic wand tool (make sure its set with the "contiguous" box UNCHECKED), you select the white parts of the lineart image (which should all be selected with one click), then you select "inverse" so that the line art itself is now selected. Once its selected, at the bottom of the layer pallette, there should be a selection that says "apply layer mask", and select it. Once the layer mask is set up, you can go to the orignal lineart layer and click on the lineart (not the layer mask) and continue to change the color of the lineart.

Ill probably be putting up a tutorial on this soon, so if it doesnt work, dont fear.

Good thing I read this.
Thanks for the explanation. I've been stuck trying to do the effect on my Sith characters but the ones I do don't have that SW hologram effect and they look iffy and more like a plaster of transparent blue hue.

I'm gonna try it, but I'd love to see a tut of it too (when you have time of course). :D
